The group of per- and polyfluorinated substances (PFAS) comprise perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS), perfluorononanoic acid (PFNA), perfluorohexanesulfonic acid (PFHxS) and hundreds of other substances. The best known are PFOS and PFOA.
The perfluorinated compounds PFOS and PFOA are biologically and chemically extremely stable and resist water and grease. Because of these technical properties, they were used over decades in the production of textiles, electronics, paper coatings, paint, fire extinguishing foam and ski wax.
Perfluorinated compounds do not break down in the environment and build up in the human body. Since 2010 the use of PFOS and since 2020 the use of PFOA has been banned in Europe.
The HALO® PFAS column offers a comprehensive solution for the analysis of per- and polyfluorinated compounds (PFAS) in environmental and food samples. Each lot is QC tested via LC-MS/MS. A selection of 17 PFAS from a vast range of short and long-chained compounds is analysed.

The HALO® PFAS Delay column assures that background PFAS contamination from the HPLC equipment or the mobile phase does not interfere with the PFAS compounds of the sample. This is specifically important in trace analysis.
The delay column bonded phase is a highly retentive endcapped silane chosen for its ability to demonstrate delay of background instrument PFAS contamination across multiple mobile phase conditions. For this reason, the HALO® PFAS Delay column is placed upstream of the sample injector.
